It had been one crazy-ass day. Who would’ve thought the day would end in a death?

While Larah and Jemila were in the truck consoling Eshe, Jyreese and I made sure the restaurant was secured. I stood up front with the paramedics as they strolled Ms. Evan’s corpse out in a body bag. Jyreese met me back up front just as I turned all the lights off. We could only see each other by the ambulance’s flaring lights.

I didn’t know what Eshe had planned for tomorrow, but I refuse to let her start her day out with anything pertaining to this restaurant. She needed to relax and be pampered all day. Even though I had to go to work, I was still going to make sure her day was as easy-going as possible.

As we hopped into the truck, I pulled Eshe close to me. Seven minutes later, we were pulling up to Nichelle’s house. Jemila blew out a breath, and I assumed it was because Nichelle’s vehicle wasn’t parked out front. The porch light came on, and Sakina stepped out into the yard with her hand on her hip. I looked down, and Eshe was already staring up at me.

“I told her that I’d get her another phone and pay her not to call the police on Larah,” I explained.

“Thanks, Kejuan! Cause if I would’ve gone to jail, she was going to get a real beatdown when I got out… I didn’t get her like I wanted to,” Larah said, then turned back around in her seat.

“Thanks, baby,” Eshe said.

“It was no problem, really,” I assured. “Let me go and pay her so I can get you and my baby fed.”

“I want to go back with you, Eshe,” Jemila blurted.

“What?” Eshe sat up and faced her sister.

“I’m sorry for everything I put you through when we were coming up. I was wrong. The truth is, I’ve always admired you and how strong you are. You dealt with a lot from us, and I’m truly sorry for that. I see things in a different light now, and I want the opportunity for us to start over if you would have me. I just need a place to stay for a little while until I can get on my feet… Please, don’t make me go back in there permanently,” Jemila cried.

Eshe reached over and hugged her sister tight, then looked back at me.

“It’s whatever you want to do, Toots,” I said as she turned back to Jemila.

“Go and get as much of your things you can bring with you!” said Eshe.

Jemila hopped out of the backseat and ran into the house. I stepped out and headed over to Sakina.

Back in Santo Domingo, we stopped at a diner to grab a bite to eat. Everybody was tired and ready to go home. Eshe was leaning on my shoulder while eating, and Larah was doing the same with Jyreese. Jemila, on the other hand, was gobbling her food up. Before we made it to the house, Eshe had fallen asleep.
